George R. Martin, 89, of Freetown, IN., passed away on Friday, 1/13/17 at the Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown, IN at 9:45 PM.
Mr. Martin was a U. S. veteran, and served as minister at various Churches in Indiana and Kentucky . The Churches he served are Slate Valley Christian Church, White Oak Christian Church, Houston Christian Church, Fairview Christian Church, Antioch Christian Church, Freetown Church of Christ, Gum Lick Christian Church, Baileys Chapel Christian Church. He had also been camp manager for Camp Calvary in Mackville, KY for over 20 years.
He enjoyed UK Basketball, the Detroit Tigers and the Cincinnati Reds. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Born on February 12, 1927 in Freetown, he was a son of James C. and Letha Fern (Brock) Martin. On August 20, 1950 he married Elsie Morgan and she preceded him in death on February 9, 2009.
Survivors include His Children: Sharon (Dennis) Taylor, James (Debra) Martin and Kevin (Tina) Martin.
8 grandchildren: Amanda Taylor, Leigh Ann Taylor, Tori Anderson, Hunter Martin, Caitlin Martin, Caleb Martin, Rachel Gernert, and Andrew Gernert.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Ralph Martin and 1 sister, Ruth Pfeiffer, his wife and his parents.
Visitation: Monday, January 16, at the Freetown Church of Christ from 4-8 PM. The funeral scheduled for Tuesday will be at the Freetown Church of Christ at 1:00 PM. Barry DeWitt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lucas Cemetery at Freetown. Military rites will be conducted at the grave.
